On Friday, 11/22/74, a letter (Xerox copy attached)
addressed to the Director was received at FBIHQ. The letter
was in response to the "Argosy" magazine article just published
regarding this case. The writer in essence states that Tania
and her friends are rejecting the article's appeal for them to
surrender and are true revolutionaries. This completely type-
written two page letter addressed to the Director bore the
typewritten name of Tania, the name adopted by Patricia Campbell
Hearst, as the author. The envelope containing the letter carried
a return address of P. 0. Box 8189, San Clemente, Calif. The
envelope was postmarked U. S. Postal Service, N. M. 870 and dated
20 Nov. 1974, P. M. .

Immediately upon receipt the Los Angeles, Albuquerque
and San Francisco Offices were advised of receipt of this letter $
as well as personnel of the Laboratory and Identification
Divisions. By teletype dated 11/22/74, our Los Angeles Office
advised that Los Angeles indices were negative regarding P. 0. .
Box 8189. The U. S. Secret Service, Los Angeles, advised that
"Pp, O, Box is unknown to them and is not connected in any way
with former President Nixon. Postmaster, San Clemente, Calif.,
‘advised P. O. Box 8189 is non-existent. He stated all boxes in.
the San Clemente Station are in the 2,000 series. Further .
inguiry at San Juan Capistrano, Calif., disclosed above P. 0.
Box non-existent in that town. | ‘
The Albuquerque Office also by teletype dated 11/22/74,
advised that R. T. Slocum, Postal Inspector, Albuquerque, N. M.,
advised that postmark "Nov. 20, 1974, N.M., 870" is a New
Mexico postmark from the Albuquerque Sectional Center Facility
870 which handles all Albuquerque and surrounding small towns

office identification numbers, he would be unable to pinpoint
where in Albuquerque or surrounding small towns the letter was
