Coun. 1 - Mr. Walsh Telephone Rae — 1 ~- Mr. Wannail in The following outlines recent developments in this case which trace, in part, coast-to-coast travel by Patricia Hearst and Emily and William Harris during the period of late June to September 27, 1974. BACKGROUND: January 12, 1975, represents the first of several occasions we were in receipt of information from apparently the same anonymous source that one Jack Scott, who resides with professional basketball player Bill Walton, was aiding Patricia Hearst and the Harrises in their travel from Berkeley, California, to New York City and return with a lay~ over period at a farm in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, during dune through September, 1974. These calls had been received by the Metropolitan Washington, D. C.; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Scranton, Pennsylvania, Police Departments as well as the Washington Field Office. The caller in each instance expressed fear of contacting the FBI directly in that his identity would probably be detected through "voice waves" or "tracing techniques." The anonymous source also named several other individuals who may have participated in this alleged harboring activity and . described Patricia Hearst as. having cut her hair short, dyed “ it blond and using a pregnant appearance disguise. Further, the anonymous caller advised she was using the name Susan. Our Portland Office attempted to interview Jack Scott. concerning the above allegations on 1/15/75. However, upon consultation with his attorney, Scott declined FBI interview. On 1/17/75, our Cleveland Office interviewed Bill Walton while he was in that Division on a Portland Trailblazer Basketbail Team road trip, and he denied any knowledge of the fugitives _in this case and vouched for Jack Scott's whereabouts as of 8/16/74. Walton identified Susan as "my lady." Portland identified Susan as Susan Kay Guth, who is Walton's "live in" girlfriend. Walton was cautioned as to the provisions: of jthe Harboring Statute. oie ”) tease pec. 107 4-pcraj ep / aLOSS CONTINUED 4 -_QVER 7 EA:sls race tat teeat Sl 4 (9) SIs 18 MAR I2 1975 .
