Specimens Q15 through 918 are .30 Carbine caliber.
mi itary cartridge cases which wore identified as having been
fired in one weapon. Specimens Q15 and Q17 bear a "LC 68"
_headstamp indicating manufacture by Lake City Ordnance Plant,
Independence, Missouri. . Speciiwens Q16 and O18 bear a “PC 42°
headstamp indicating Peters Cartridge Ccoiwpany, Kings Mill, Chio
manufacture. The mechanism markings present on these - four cartridc
cases were compared to the markings present on the Q7 cartridge
case from siegle' s Gun Shop, reportedly fired in a .30 caliber
-U. S, carbine, Ml, Serial Number 3801. Kothing was found to
indicate the 915 through Q18 cartridge cases were fired from the
above-Cescribed weapon in its state of wear when the .97 cartridge
case was fircd. The mechanism markings present on the QL5 through
Q18 cartridge cases are consistent with these produced by .30
Carbine caliber U. S. carbines, Hl and 2, as well as possibly .
other weapons. . i
Specimens 094 through 099 are .30 Carbine caliber
military cartridges which have been loaded with 110-grain,
copper-jacketed bullets. The headstamp present on these
Cartridges is "LC 68" like that pxvessnt on the O15 and O17
cartridge cascs. It is noted that .30 Caxbine caliber ammunition
bearing the "LC 68" headstamp is widely available commercially.
Rothing was found to indicate that specimens Q94 % through 099 have
been loaded into or extracted from | @ weapon, a
Specimen ois is a .380 Auto (Smm Short) cartridge -
-case of Super Vrl. manufacture which bears marks of value for.
compdrison and identification with suspect weapons. No thing
was found to indicate that this cartridge case was loaded into.
and extracted from the .380 Aute Walther pistol, todel PP,
Serial Number 44435A represented by the twenty-five K2 test
- eartridges which were loaded into and extracted from this weapon.
The mechanism marks on the Q19 cartridde case are typical of
the type produced. by a large number of .380 Auto caliber pistols.
Accordingly, “no list of weapons is. being furni shed.
The 99 copper~jackated bullet fragment and.the O10,
Qll, 014 and 054 copper jacket fragments are too minute and
mutilated to determines their caliber type, liowever, the land
and groove widths present on several of these specimens are the
same as those present on the 08°.30 caliber copper~-jacketed | |
sbullet. This suggests these fragments may also be fragments: -
230 caliber bullets. Although specimens Q8 through Qidy o 2:
O14 and O54 bear some: microscopic marks of possible value for
identification purposes, no conclusion could be reached as +9
whether these. specimens were fire 2a from one barrel.
