Wallaces "Sirs "Would it not be appropriate. for you to consider the following questions If you had been a Kussian and had spoken about Stalin the sama way as you have now criticized Truman's policy, what would then have happened upon your return to Russia?® Although this letter may not be ropresentative of the average Swedish attitude toward Mr. tallace's "mission", it does express what many Swedes appear to have considered to be the t: weak spot in his gampa gngj namely, his disavowal of his own country's policy and his seeming partiality in Russia's favor. On the whole, Mr. Wallace's appearance in Stockholm gave the impression that he had overestimated the public in- terest in world affairs in general and in the tasks of the United Nations in particular. The idealistic but quite unin- fluential people who sponsored his visit here are hardly repro- sentative of the average Swede, whe although definitely peace- Lov: is relatively indifferent to international politics. Seen that light, it seems unlikely that Mr. Wal. ace's pro- pagande lecture in Stockholm found any responso outside those circles which wero won for his cause already. .
