not to deal with Hamer; that the situation in the southwest is very
delicate and he did‘want to have any conflict with Hamer, but at the
same time we don't want to be working with him; that we will take any-
thing he has but we are not going to give anything we have;.that this
hes to be done Verypiiplomatically; that he does not want Mr. Brantley
submerged or pushed dow by Gus Jones or Frank Blake because both are
inclined to get around and do something next year; that the United
States Attorney has nothing to do with the case until we get it cleaned
up; that it should be done like Mr. Connalley in Chicago, as a special
assignment, directly out of Washington.
Mr. Hoover advised that he is in room 3011, Hotel New Yorker.
Mr, Quinn advised Mr. Tolson that he had two appointments
on which he had prepared telegrams, E. Russell Davids, Special Agent,
and Adam M, Jankovyski. Mr. Tolson stated that if they have been ap-
proved, they shoudd be sent out.
With reference to th Patrol in the southwest, Mr.
folson inquired of Mr. Quinn the dutcome of his conversatian with Mr.
Nathan. Mir, Quinn stated that he talked to Mr. Little in the absence

nothing about the Air Patrol; that Mr. Little steted that he would
ascertain the facts and submit same to the Bureau by sir mail; that Mr.
Nathan. stated there was some talk several weeks ago about putting on such
a test at Wichita, but nothing ever became of it; that if there is
such an organization, he knows nothing about it; that he,too will also
ascertain the facts and advise the Bureau.
Mr..Hoover advised Mr. Quinn to call Mr. Stanley and tell
him that he is in New York City at the Hotel New Yorker: that he, Mr.
Hoover will probably be there for several days.
Mr. Hoover advised Mr. Quinn that he had been thinking over
the Detroit case, and instructed Mr. Quimn to see if there is some basis
for us to get in on the cass; that if there is some basis, he wanted to
be advised before a wire is sent to the Chief of Detectives in Detroit;
that if the crime occurred subsequent to the Fugitive Act, it would
be within our jurisdiction. Mr. Quinn stated that he was not sure about
the date, but that he thought it happened before the Fugitive Act. Mr.
Hoover stated that he thought that Mr.Quinn should check up on this case
and see if there was not some basis for the Bureau to get in on it; that
if there were, Mr. Quinn should telephone the Chief of Detectives and
explain to him that there is no National CrimePommission; that there is
an advisory committee to the Attorney General but which deals with
purely administrative matters; that we are, however, making the subject
in this case a fugitive from justice under the Federal law and that the
Chief of Detectives could state in his announcement that the man ig
being sought by the Detroit authorities and by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and sny information obtained should be reported directly
to either of these agencies. Mr. Hoover atated that he thought that
