HARIY MARTIN telephonically contacted the writer and advised that he had received a call from one BERT ANDHEWS who was connected with a washington newspaper and who had advised him that he was writine a book concerning the Alger-Hiss case. According to MARTIN, ANDREWS desired to stop in Philadelphia on wed- nesday , 12/27/50, on route from New York to Washington, in order that he might obtain soze information from MARTIN regarding the Hiss typowriter. IMETIN said that he was callins to report the contact to the Bureau and to ask if there was any information that the Bureau could give rerardings the advisability of furnishing information to ANDREWS. He was told that any information he would give to ANDREWS would have to be as a result of his own best judgement, that the Bureau could not advise him one way or the other concerning this matter. He was further advised, however, that AEDRIWS was well knovm to the Bureau and that the Bureau had a high regard for hin. RARTIN thanked the writer for this cowment and stated that he intended to discuss the matter on a friendly basis with SIDREWS on 12/26/50. 12-2 TO . yor.
