and Special Agent G. It wes observed that Dillinger looked around in
different directions and seamed to realize that he was being closed in
upon, at which time he made a motion with his hand, indicating thet he

M, He Purvis and Special Agents E, C and D had drawn their guns
approaching right up to Dillinger, At that tine the wrt r drew
Dillinger then realized, evidently, that he was trappe tii
to get his gun, seamed 40 take ten quick steps tovarn the ley and
he did so, one or two of the Agents making the immediate approach on
fired three times and as a result of these shots, Dillinger pitched
on his face into the alley, at approximately four or five feat fron
writer. Not knowing whether or not Dillinger would attempt to shoot after
he hit the ground, the writer along with the ether Acents, eovered him
with guns, but it was observed that after he hit the ground, he did not
move again.” ’
Special Agent G, under date of duly 25, 1954, submitted a
statement, from which the following pertinent statements were taken:
"As [Pillincer pasced in front of Epecial Agent in Charge Purvis, kr. Purvis
lighted a ciger, which was the signal that John Dillinger wes approaching.
Dilliccer looked towards Special Agent in Charge ke H. Purvis, but did not
appear at this time to be suspicious. He did not appear to leok at Agent
E, as he passed his, but as he passed the car in which Agent Bo was sitting, —
he locked at Agent B. As soon ag he had pessed Epecial Agent in Charge M. MN.
Purvis and Agent E, these two Agents fell in behind him. As he passed ‘
Agent C, it appeared as though the shorter of the two women who were
accompanying hin, pulled his shirt or gave him some signal and he looked
quickly aroud at Agent C. By this time he was approximately 25 feet from
tho alley entrance menticned above. Hse appeared to realise that he was
trapped, there was a very tense lock on his face, and he sroushed and
pulled his gum. At this point, Agent D took a step towards him and
Dillinger appeared to be ready to spring into the alley. agent F ané
this Agent hed their guns ready, dut Dillinger had mmly taken about tuo
steps in a crouching position towards the alley, when Agmt C€ fired.
In a signed statement submitted by Special Acent B, he states

took his place immediately in front of Dillinger, I saw Dillinger reach
in his right rear trousers pocket, red tere lavetl pur thak 15t out
this pocket as my view was then obstructed, but immediet.ly after tha
