mcn were not going down into the mine, The real issue
(continued) that morning was the refusal of the men to work with

discussion about wagos and I personally told the men to go to work, that we
would take care of the trouble,
"Our committec then asked Falecotti to discharge the men who had been
expelled from the Union. Es refused, saying that it would be a violation of
the Wagner Act, In the meantime the men had gone to work, Falcetti told
us that the expelled mon would work.
"Elshoff showed_up at the one old a meeting with

remember if he stated why he wouldn't. At any ratc, we talked with Elshoff
until about noon and got nowhere with him. ae -:-: told me to call
the men out and I issued the ordcors bringing tho men out. Thore were short
loads coming out of the pit that day, but such action was not authorizcd
by the union. When the men were called out it wos our intention to keep
the men out on strike until we hed reached an agrcement with Elehoff. His
mind appeared to be firmly made up that he would not discharge those men,
"Following this, therc was a picket linc at Mine B for about two
wecks. This was a small linc and was on the highway. Thero was no violence
as for as I know and it didn't last long. After the strike, the mattcr was
then placed in the hands of the state officcrs,
"I remember being present at several rectings held between our
officers und Elshoff. Thesc mectings were held at Hotels, at tho mine and
at many other places, I am not surc of the date nor what happoncd at all
of the moctings,
"I recall that 2 petition was circulated among the men by P.M.A.
and it was signed by most of the men. This petition was taken to the nen,
at their homes or whercver they might be. I signed this potition at the
mine whilo the first pickct linc was there, J do not reeall any other
petitions that summer although I heard that some petitions were pnssed out, |
