The car used in the holdup at Alma was located and the writer made known
his identity to the garage man, advising him that he was checking on the
automobile in qestion, After going through the routine of making a check of
the car, permission was secured fran the garage man to use his telephone, a
pay station telephone. Agents did not go to Fort Smith for the purpose of
telephoning, because of the apparent tip-off at that point at the time Frank
Kash was held at that point wiile enroute to Kansas City. The writer put in
@ call for Special Acent in Charge Gus Jones, at the Kansas City Office, but
was advised by Speciel Agent Flood eat Kansas City that Mr. Jones was not:
available, but that he had been instructed to secure all information the
agents might have obtained. Agent Flood advised that in the event the in-
formation furmmished was deemed of importance, Special Agent in Charge Jones
would contact the agents in Alma, An outline of the information furnished
above was given to Special Agent Flood. .
Later in the evening, Special Agent in Charge Jones telephoned the
writer at Alma and requested him to make arrengements whereb he might met blb
Ernie Hill the following day. Mr. Jones was informed tha did not de-
“sire to return to Feyetteville, but would remain in Alma for the night, where
he might be contacted. Under instructions from Mr. Jones, the agents returned
to Fayetteville, where they stayed at the City park Tourist Camp. It had
previously been arranged that they were to be met there by Mr. Jones from
Kansas City.

Special Agent in Charge Tones and Special agent Brantley contacted .
the agents at the City Park Tourjst ¢ Fayetteville, and made arrangements
wiereby agents ware to contact at Alma and have him drive out the
Fort Smith Road, for a conference with Mr. Jones and Agent Brantley.
Upon arriving at Alma, agents were inforned at the tourist canp
where@il ctopped, that shortly after they leff the night before, the Sheriff
from Yen Buren, Arkansae called at the camp ani questioned@@Pebout his
activities. It was learned tha tQ¥j™> hed been released, but was at the Sheriff's
office in Van Buren that day.
; it the Sheriff's office in Yan Buren, agents contacted QM who said
that he had not been compelled to call at the Sheriff's office, put merely re-
quested to do so, He stated that in view of the rough treatment he had re-
ceived at the hands of the Sheriff's force the night before,. he deemed it_ad-—
visable to comply with the request.
