4b " He advised that shortly after he had put up for the night, members of the Sheriff's force came to him ani accused him of being a member of a holdup or outlaw gang. When he refused to talk, they twisted his arn, and otherwise mistreated hin, until he told them that he was working on a case with govern- ment agents. He requested them to telephone to the Post Office Inspector at Fayetteville, Arkansas, whom he had met, for verification of his story. This was done, and he was rel essed, Shortly thereafter, on the highway between Yan Buren and Alma, Arkansas, Hill was placed in contact with Special Agent in Charge Jonss and Agent Brantley, the othar agents not being present. Under instructiom from Mr. Jones, the agents proceeded to the City Park Tourist Cemp at Fayetteville, Arkansas, where a conference was had later in the day between Special ent in Charge Jones, Special Agnts Brant- ley, Allen, Anderson, dhd agreed to return to the camp conducted by Hamlin and said that he would g6 Tulsa, Oklahana if necessary. He departed the same dey for the Hamlin camp, making a circuitous route, in order that he might epproach from the Missouri side. He was instructed to report to Agents Allen and Anderson at Fayetteville after he had completed his contact at the camp. He was requested to secure License nunbers, makes of cars, the itinerary of Hanlin, and any other information which might be of value to the investigation. Special Agent in Charge Jones and Special Agent Brantley departed, their whereabouts being unknom to the writer. JULY 3, 1935 In the early afternoon, Se returned to the tourist camp, b7b advising that he had been to Hamlin'’s place and had secured some valuable in- formation, Shortly after his arrival, and before the agents had time to question hjm at eny length, Special Agent in Charge Jones and Special Agent Brantley arrived. They talked wi th QD ond made notes of all the information he fumished. In view of this, his information is not being repeated in this menorandum.
