On $¥e6 last page of this mamorandum his statement
with regard to theaachine gun which was probably used in the Eanaas
City shooting, sholld be mted. He stated that thie gun at the
Present time, is buried, but he knows the person in Chicago who
hae built a secret enclosure in the house where thie gun will be
stored when it is brought back. He has no information at the
present time as to when the gin will be brought back, but as soon
as he finda out, he will inform me,
I have comminicated with the Kansas City Office,
and have requested that the bullete used in the Kansas City shooting
be forwarded t> me for the purpose of identification by the Chicago
Police Department Balllistics expert.
Mr. Hawkine atated he obtains all of his information |
from an informant of his, who ie at the present time directly connected -
with the Syndicate (the Capone Syndicate}. He stated that he .
had known thia person for years, end that hie informant hed
been present at many shootings in Chicago, but had mt taken part
in them. He added that bie informant, in giving thie information
+t to him, is mtivated by a desire to aid, if possible, in stopping
the many murders and like crimes in Chicago.
Hawkine indicated to me that he had a tentative plan
whereby three wealthy citizens of Chicago would possibly furnich the
finances for him and bie informant to work fof a period of about
three months, and that his plan was to gain information and turn it
over to one of the attorneys for these individuale who furnish the
money, who would be somewhat of a Chairman of the Comittee, and
who, in turn, would furniesh me with eny information in which he
believe I might be interested, and to turn over to the State's
attorney's office such information as they believed would be of
interest to him. It ie my opinion that we are the best judges of
the type of information in which we wuld be interested, end thet
4% would be far better for thie individual to give his entire inform tion
to us, directly. I therefore informed him that if he secured any
information, that I would be desirous of obtaining it, personally.
