On November 1, 1933, the writer, accompanied by officers
Fidgeon, Lynch, Curtin and Donovan, was in the police car on Galt
Street, directly opposite the fire escape and alley way of the Sherone
Apartments, facing West. At about 3:00 P.M. the same date Special
Agent J.J, Keating contacted the writer and advised the writer that
several complaints had been received in the neighborhood regarding
men sitting around in cars exposing guns. Keating stated that we were
not to remein there any longer. In accordance with instructions, the
car was pulled out of Galt Street, and this Agent, accompanied by offi-
cer Curtin went to apartment 207, Sherone Apartments.

While at Apartment 207, this Agent, together with Agent,
Keeting, Sergeant Kempster of the State Police, Officer Curtin and
Special Agent =. F. Guinene discussed as to whether or not it wuld
‘be aévisable to surrouné the Sherone Apartments and to call spartment
211 on the phone, orcering Verne Miller, if he were there, to come
out with his handsup. It was deciced at this time that this should
be done. Special agent Guinane then advised this Agent to have a
kev made for Verne Millér's car, “hich vas parked on & parking lot
directly opposite the Sherone Apertments, to open sere and ascertain
whether or not there wes anything in the car that would indicate
that it belonged to Verne Miller. He alsoadvised that this Agent was to
try to make arrangements to get into a second floor apartment
directly opposite apartment 211, Sherone Apartments and in the rear
of the Sherone apartments. Agent Guinane also advisec this Agent
after these arrangements hed been made to ¢c@ll Acting Special Arent
jn Charge D. 0, Smith on the phone anc advise him es to the arrange-
ments and the possible taking of Verne Miller at 5:00 o'clock.
In accordance with the above instructicns, this Agent
procured a key for the car, ané in company Rith Officer Lonovan opened
the same. There was found therein a Corona typewriter, a brief bag
ecnteining several eyeglass cases, a golf bag containing about twenty
golf elubs and a trunk containing same clothing and a suit of clothes
manufactured by the Sax Company of New York. The car was then locked
and arrangements were made to procure the apartment in the rear of
the Sherone Apartment house so that a watch could be kept on the rear
and side windows ané the fire escape leading from Verne Miller's apart-
ment.
