was filed on September 29, 1033, the said parties having been apprehended
in St. Paul, Minnesota, and removed to Chicagose At this moment Baird
being in jail, negotiations are being conducted by a contact man, H. F,
Ball, who ta living at 710 Barry Avenue, phone, Buckingham 6495, Chicago,
Illinois. Ball is very definitely associated with this group, Every
j effort is being made at present to secure enough money to secure the
‘§ release of Baird on bis bonds It is understood that Ball now hae approxz-
imately $1,700.00 and a thirty thousand dollar property security for the
bond when it is made. Ball is reported to be at liberty under a twenty-
five thousand dollar bond, having been indicted in Kansas City, Kansaa, -
on « large hi-jacking of expensive rugée Hall informed that Attorney — ;
Cunningham and his partner, of Sen 4ntonio, are aleo in custody on the ,
game case in which Baird and Spangler are being held, Thies matter was \
verified and found to be correct, which would indicate Hall knows what
he is talking aboute
Hall informed that the gang of which Baird and Spangler are
members, is composed of more than 300 men; that their meeting place ia
in the basement of a roadhouse in the vicinity of Kansas City, Mis@uri,

this gang and they have complete accommodations at said roadhouse for

house, where the contents were examined, fourteen machine gunners stand-
ing guard while the contents were being examined, Hall stated that both
Baird and Spangler frequently mentioned a man by the name of fevine from
Kansas City, who is eupposed to be identified with this gangs Farther
that Ball had made the statement that Levinas didn't care how much
Spangler and Baird “talked” since he, Levinas, is covered up. Hall also
stated that Baird and Sal) had both told him the name of a machine gunner
‘ in the Kansas City massacre who ia completely unknown to the Government.
Hall could not recall the name of thie man but promised that he would © ..
secure the same, He also informed that he hed learned that the group '
responsible for the masaacre in Kaness City had 115 gangsters available |
for protection at that times
Hall aleo informed that Ball tola him that Saird is a 33rd
Degres Mason, has police courtesy cards in Mexico, and also has a pare
manent pasaport for Thomas A. Baird and party, which will permit him to ;
enter and leave Mexico at will, It is Hall's understanding that these o, :
passports and courtesy cards were in the possession of the United States + ,
Marshal at Chicago, but discreet inquiries at that point through the a
United States Attorney's office disclosed that they were not there, Hall
