KONERW ANID CONF ITIAL. J Peasen al Directcr, Division of Investigation, U. 5. Departzect of Justice, Tashingten, O.¢, Dear Sir: \ 9 Kindly refer to Division letter of January }, 1974, containing comments to the effect that the Division was disturbed over the handling of the case involving the massacre cf peace offic- ers in Fanses City, Missouri. Recently, while J] was in Washington, D.C., Assist- ant Director 4. 8. Clegg instructed me to endeavor to eliminate certain difficulties, which appeared to have developed during my recent absence on special assignment. Today, I have directed two communications to the Division regarding the masssecre case, which have outiined the develop- ments in the past, and the procedure to be followed in the future. It will be appreciated, if the Division would give those two letters most careful consideration. le Perscnaily, I was pleased at the action of the Division in hsving Special agent Hsrold E. andersen assigned to the direct supervision of the massacre case. Jt will be recsiled that I perscnally requested the Director to assign Agent Ancersen to the Kan- eas City office at the tine I was transferred here, in order that he right work on that case. JI have found that during the past two weeks, Azent andersen has developed a procedure to be followed in the future, wich is logical and will protetly tring this case to a logical con- clusion at the earilast possible TE AG uN (130 Bro. 7 {o ptbeE te ee . oa Iter t fas “ae too fooaD.
