e “Significant Info. On Malvo/Muhammad” - 10/20/02: Montgomery, Alabama police officials make contact with the Montgomery County, Maryland Task Force, and forwards the Armalite . Catalog, crime scene photos, a picture of Lee Malvo, a copy of his fingerprints, and bullet fragments recovered in Alabama on 09/21/02. (*On 10/22/02, FBI IAFIS personnel positively match the fingerprint from the Montgomery, Alabama crime of 09/21/02, with fingerprints recovered from a note left at a shooting scene in Bowie, Maryland on 10/07/02. Malyo had been arrested on Dec. 19, 2001 by the U.S. Border Patrol in Bellingham, Wa. He was released pending an INS hearing scheduled for November of 2002. His status shows a “release on his own recognizance on 01/23/2002, pending a removal hearing. ”). . . - 10/21/02: [source is positive he engaged the suspect, John b? Muhammad (AKA: ‘Williams’) at the Outback Steakhouse in Aspen Hill, at 7p about 11:15 p.m. Source is a regular at this business. He remembers the . subject feeling ill and being seated in the hostess area as the place closed. He watched as the subject got up to leave, departing in a blue Chevrolet Caprice with tinted windows and New Jersey plates. Caller is positive " that this man is the same shown on CNN. (*See full [CF report. This subject also spoke to other parties within the Outback*). | - 10/21/02: Two individuals were detained for possible involvement in the ° sniper shootings after being observed near a phone booth. The investigation excluded the pair, yet both were turned over to INS personnel. (*Four pay phones suspected of being used by the snipers, were seized as physical evidence and turned over to FBI laboratory personnel*). Of investigative interest is a vehicle sought by investigative personnel (pearl white metallic station wagon). This vehicle was seen by a witness during the 10/14/02 shooting. : - 10/21/02: Canvass commenced by ATF personnel of all FFL’s in Maryland. In addition to this sweep, the ATF continues to examine firearm purchases, thefts, and recoveries via the ATF-National Tracing Center, in conjunction with the Virginia and Maryland firearms reporting systems. Designated retail stores selling .223 Ca. ammunition, along with compatible firearms have been monitored. - 10/21/02: (Seely Source from Roya] Books in Baltimore, Maryland states that on/about this date, between noon and 3:00 p.m., the subject Muhammad entered store and sought Arabic books. The subject was shown the 2"™ floor area housing those materials. Minutes later, the subject said he had . found what he was looking for and left. There are no cameras at this location.
