(AP) = Accused murderer Theodore Bundy escaped from custody today by jumping from a second-lloor window in the Pitkin County Courthouse during a recess in a pretrial hearing. The County Sheriff's Department said roadblocks had been set up on Colorado Highway 82, the main road leading out of this mountain resort community. A dispatcher said deputies were searching the streets of Aspen for Bundy. Bundy, a former political party worker, had been ordered to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge in the slaying two years ago of a Michigan Turse. —_———e He was returned to Colorado from Utah, where he wus serving a 1-to-15 year sentence for the 1974 attempted kidnaping of a Salt Lake City girl. Bundy, 29. a former law student at the University of Utah, escaped during a hearing on a motion he filed to waive the death penalty if he is found guilty. Defense attorneys assisting Bundy had finished their arguments, and District Court Judge George Lohr declured a recess before hearing the prosecution response.
