Septeaber 1, 1932. MREMGQRARDSE During the encampaent of the B.E.F. in Washington an Act ef Congress was approved by the President suthorising leans to veterans fer the purpose of returning to their houss, 5091 ef the Yonus marchers made application for leans under this Act of Congress. The Veterana Administration furnished each applicant with a card which was to contain the name of the applicant, his Avay serial number, service record, organisations, date of service, claim nuuber, if any, and application ausber for adjusted service certificate. It has been noted that in a great mony cases the cards were not completely executed. Nevertheless, all 5091 cards were submitted to the different service branches of the armed forces for the purpose ef identifying the appli~ eants and withdrawing fingerprint records to compare the same with the criminal records of the United States Bureau of Investi- gation. 4506 of these cards were submitted to the Identity Sestion of the Warld War Division of the War Departaent. ‘The C * War Departaent was unable to identify the fingerprint records of 696 of these individuals. 3810 were identified end finger prints compared with the criminal records of the United States Bureau of Investigstion. 473 cards were submitted to the Navy Department, of which 445 were identified and 28 were not. The 445 cards were compared with the criminal records in the United States Bureau of Investigation. 108 cards were submitted to the United States Marine Corps, All were identified and fingerprint wo comparisons made. 4 cards were submitted to the Bnited States — Coast Guard, only one being identified, and compared with Salty criminal records, The dumeariszation of the 5091 cards submitted to the ‘ service branches indicated that 4364 fingerprints were obtained and compared with the fingerprints on file in the United States Bureau of Investigation. 727 cards were not identified. It is understood that a name search was made by the identification divisions of the services indicated, using such data as was indicated on the eard with reference to organization, service, dates thereof, et cetera, as a further check to support the identifiestion, f 2+ 4 The search of these fingerprints in the United States : Bureay of Investigation developed the following informations > ey abe. vet Corr pestzorap \-\- 49 © AUG 22 1972
