SF 7-855 _ DAG/1b anything being placed in the trunk. He noted that with the sound of screaming and gunfire his fear level increased considerably, and he was not totally cognizant of ail that was going on around hia. The car drove off and traveled for only a short distance, not more than five minutes. There was very - Jittle conversation at this time, but those in the car seemed breathless as they were breathing very heavily. - The car stopped again and there was considerable noise outside. BENENSON said he felt aware of another car close to his, but cannot specifically note his reasons for this. He said the clamour of movement outside the car was considerable and then suddenly the noise stopped. BENENSON said that at this time he attempted to free himself. In short order he lowered his blindfold and got the gag from his mouth. He got out of the car with his hands still tied behind his back and walked down Claremont Avenue (towards Oakland) with his hands behind his back similar to a walking posture assumed by many Europeans. . Several minutes later he freed his hands. He kept the binding, the blindfold and gag. BENENSON did state that when he got out of his car on Tanglewood Street he saw a Volkswagen autobus, two-tone, but exact color unknown, parked about .. 20 feet behind his car. It appeared that the taillights were on. . BENENSON said that he was in a very emotionally . distressed state at this time. While he had originally suspected that when the people first grabbed him they intended using his car to transport something, after hearing the shots he felt that his car had possibly been used in an assassination. He said he was fearful of going back to the car, so he spent the night at a friend's house. BENENSON said that it was not until he contacted -the Berkeley FBI Office that he became aware thet someone - other than himself had been kidnapped in.connection with the; -theft of his car. . c wom eg, PERS NF ONp oe 4 or : 4 i 7% . : >
