LONG DISTANCR TELEPHQE CALL NUMBER 1,FROM THE TELEPHONE OF SUBJECT GalaTas, WNOMBER 3642, HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSSS, TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, LITTLE ROCK, SREANSAS, NUMBER 42162, TIME 8:54 Pe Me, JUNE 16, 1935. This telephone call was taiked on by Capt. 0. NH. Martin of the Little Rock, Arkaneas, Police Department, and was received by him from Herbert A. {Dutch} akera, a police detective of Hot Springs, arkansas. Akers had called the Little Rock,arkansas, Police Department, about 12:30 Bi. on June 16, 1933, subsequent to the arrest of Naeb and had warned of the "Kidnapping" at Hot Springs. The Little Rock officers accordingly had stopped the igents there as noted above. The dgenta end Mr. Reed, with prisoner Nash, had left on their way from Little Rock when et 2:34 Fu., Mr. Martin talked on this cell with d4kers. <Akere was told by Martin that the parties had pessed through and waa told by Martin of their official identity. Akers at this time asked Ceptain Martin the deatination of the officers and prisoner ‘and was told "Joplin, hissouri® which wae all the informtion Mr. Mertin had as. to the destination. Thereafter, it will be aboun, Galetas immediately made plans to proceed to Joplin, Missouri by airplane. It is evident that the information was secured for Galatas by dkers ani furnished to him, that the officers were taking the prisoner to Joplin. Before leaving Hot Springs for Joplin, with the wife of Frank Nash, Galates on June 16th caused her to telephone to an underworld rendezvous in Chicago, Iliinois, know es the O. Pe Inn, a6 will appear under telephones call number 2 herein. It was stated on June 25, 1933, ‘to Special Agent H. BE. Anderson, United _ States Bureau of Investigation, New York City, Hew York, by Porter austell, “"" taxi driver at Hot Springs, arkansas (incidendally duetell has been since found @ead at Hot Springs, ostensibly his death having occurred in an "auto wreck®) ‘that Mhen Nash was apprehended on June 16th Galatas was esorosa the street from the White Front Pool Hall and when the officers left Hot Springe with Haah, Galatas drove hurriedly to the City Hall where the Folice Department is located. 4 few minutes later Police Officer Joe Scott of Hot Springs learned of the purported *kidnapring", phoned the Police Station, according to Austell, ma the telephone was answered dy Herbert 4.
